Minqing County General Hospital Partners with Fuzhou Maixin to Establish County-Level Pathology Diagnostic Center, Boosting Grassroots Pathology Development

At 11:00 AM on April 10, 2018, the Minqing County General Hospital Regional Pathology Diagnosis Center was officially inaugurated. Attending the signing and unveiling ceremony were Huang Qingui, President of Minqing County General Hospital; Peng Lianguo, Deputy Director of the Minqing County Health Bureau; Yu Yinghao, Director and Chairman of the Fujian Pathology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association; and Fu Xuedong, Head of the Fuzhou Maixin Pathology Diagnosis Center.

The establishment of this center will serve the 310,000 residents of Minqing County, enabling more patients with critical, urgent, severe, and complex conditions to enjoy convenient and high-quality tertiary hospital-level precise pathology diagnostic services without leaving their homes.

At the launch ceremony, President Huang stated: The weak pathology capabilities at the grassroots level have restricted the development of many major surgeries and medical services, forcing many patients to be referred to higher-level hospitals, causing great inconvenience and economic burden to patients and their families. The pathology level of a hospital is a benchmark for measuring its medical standards, and the strength and quality of the pathology department are crucial to clinical practice.

“The introduction of high-quality collaborative pathology diagnostic services from the Maixin Pathology Diagnosis Center by Minqing County General Hospital is of significant importance in narrowing the service gap between grassroots hospitals and tertiary hospitals, meeting clinical needs, and achieving hierarchical diagnosis and treatment. It is also a concrete measure to implement national healthcare reform policies and the Fujian Provincial Health and Family Planning Commission’s directives on hierarchical diagnosis and treatment, as well as the establishment of five major county-level centers including pathology and laboratory services.”

Yu Yinghao, Chief Expert of the Fuzhou Maixin Pathology Diagnosis Center and Chairman of the Fujian Provincial Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, stated: The Maixin Pathology Diagnosis Center is a pathology sharing platform. In addition to routinely conducting cytopathology, histopathology, and molecular pathology, it primarily focuses on the urgently needed complex pathology, intraoperative frozen sections, and remote consultation services at the grassroots level. This enables clinicians to carry out diagnosis and treatment work with peace of mind, allows grassroots pathologists to work, learn, and discuss simultaneously, rapidly improving their professional skills; and ensures that patients can safely undergo surgery and treatment at the grassroots level, avoiding unnecessary detours and expenses. It provides protection and support for grassroots doctors and patients, and offers more assistance and support to grassroots hospitals in reducing doctor-patient conflicts and medical disputes.

Finally, Fu Xuedong, Head of the Maixin Pathology Diagnosis Center, stated that the state encourages public hospitals to establish cooperative agreements with social medical institutions in various aspects such as talent, management, services, technology, and branding. The collaboration between Minqing County General Hospital and the Maixin Pathology Diagnosis Center can be considered a model of cooperation under the new policies, providing valuable insights and references for more grassroots hospitals to overcome the bottlenecks in hierarchical diagnosis and treatment.

After the meeting, the Maixin Pathology Diagnosis Center donated a liquid-based cytology technology service package worth 180,000 RMB to Minqing County General Hospital free of charge, to be used for cervical cancer screening services for low-income, vulnerable groups, and disabled women within Minqing County.
