MaiXin Team Visits the National Engineering Research Center for Infectious Disease Diagnostic Reagents and Vaccines at Xiamen University
As a prestigious historical university, Xiamen University, having weathered the passage of time, embodies profound cultural heritage, a beautiful environment, and remarkable scientific research achievements, attracting many to visit by reputation. The National Engineering Research Center for Infectious Disease Diagnostic Reagents and Vaccines at Xiamen University (hereinafter referred to as the “Center”) is affiliated with the School of Public Health at Xiamen University. In recent years, under the leadership of Director Xia Ningshao, the Center has achieved a series of extraordinary accomplishments, particularly its robust technological platforms, talent echelons, and research advantages, earning fame both domestically and internationally.
On May 4, 2017, a team of six from Maxin, led by General Manager Wang Xiaoya, visited the Center for an exchange and discussion, engaging in a collision of ideas and sharing of sentiments with the teams of Director Xia Ningshao and Professor Ge Shengxiang.

At the National Engineering Research Center for Infectious Disease Diagnostic Reagents and Vaccines at Xiamen University, Professor Ge Shengxiang provided a detailed introduction to the Center’s infrastructure, technological platforms, talent team, and scientific research achievements. In terms of laboratory setup, the Center is equipped with comprehensive and efficient facilities including an antigen research laboratory, nucleic acid diagnostic reagent research laboratory, electron microscopy room, and testing room. Advanced instruments, automated operating systems, and intelligent electronic facilities cover everything from animal to cellular levels, and from protein to molecular levels, with standardized and regulated equipment operation and usage procedures. The Center’s experimental research spans a wide range, possesses great depth, and features numerous highlights, having developed capabilities from different platform developments for in vitro diagnostic reagents, technological system construction to application, and from product research to technology transfer and final product presentation.
Currently, the Center has applied for 107 invention patents, of which 25 are international patents. Its research in areas such as diagnostic reagents, vaccines, and therapeutic antibodies is particularly outstanding, with the achievements in hepatitis E diagnostic reagents being the most prominent, recognized as the international gold standard. This technology has received the National Invention Second Prize, the China Patent Gold Award, and four CE certifications.

Pausing before a photo wall in the laboratory corridor showcasing academic exchanges, we not only saw the gratifying achievements the Center has made in recent years but also witnessed its diligent efforts in talent team building and external collaborations. Due to its long-term commitment to talent cultivation and echelon development, professional divisions have been continuously refined, and disciplinary construction has gradually improved. As an academic leader in China’s in vitro diagnostic reagent field, Director Xia Ningshao emphasized that the Center has always adhered to high-quality external cooperation based on “self-reliance and mutual benefit,” actively engaging in deep and fruitful scientific research collaborations with top overseas academic institutions and major biotech companies.
During the exchange, Director Xia Ningshao acknowledged the achievements of the Maxin team in the in vitro diagnostic reagent field, offered valuable suggestions for Maxin’s development, and expressed hope that the Maxin team could leverage industry advantages to conduct multi-level and multi-faceted cooperative exchanges, promoting the healthy and rapid development of the industry. He also specifically pointed out that valuing talent, providing platforms, seeking opportunities, strengthening exchanges with enterprises, guiding enterprise development, and actively creating employment opportunities for students are currently his top concerns. Transforming teaching into guidance and applying learning to practice, we see in Director Xia Ningshao not just an educator who teaches and nurtures, but also a visionary and innovative practitioner dedicated to the long-term welfare of students. Graduates from here also cherish their alma mater, with heartfelt devotion, actively giving back to society and their alma mater, forming an unbreakable bond of friendship worthy of our reference and reflection.
