After the summer heat waves, early autumn quietly arrives. In this golden breeze and refreshing early autumn season, we welcome the annual Chinese Physicians’ Day. Here, Maixin people pay tribute to all physicians: “You have worked hard, Happy Physicians’ Day!”

A century of glory, building dreams together; physicians fulfill their original mission with responsibility.Under the pandemic, you stand as a wall with your bodies,building a fortress for epidemic prevention.In diagnosis and treatment, you act in the name of love,protecting the happiness of countless families. Different physicians shoulder different responsibilities in various positions. Perhaps there are doctors you have never met or known, but they also bear the mission and responsibility engraved upon them: ‘Healing the world and saving lives.’

There is a group of such doctors

In the bustling hospital, there is such a department: here, there is a group of people who use specimen knives, microtomes, and microscopes as their ‘weapons.’ They search for the causes of diseases in the ever-changing microscopic world, only to reveal the truth of illnesses. This is the Pathology Department.

Although they have almost no direct interaction with patients, they are the ultimate diagnosticians of diseases. They are comrades-in-arms for clinicians in the trenches against illness, providing strong evidence and data behind the scenes for disease diagnosis and treatment, safeguarding patients’ health.

When the eastern sky turns pale and the city has not yet awakened, the lights here are already lit, and a busy day begins:

They enter the specimen preparation room, meticulously recording the size, color, and texture of each tissue sample, and repeatedly verifying patient information. Each type of tissue must be sampled according to specific standards. The cut tissues undergo multiple complex procedures such as dehydration, embedding, sectioning, baking, staining, and mounting before becoming colorful pathological slides. Each step must be handled with extreme caution, because behind every slide lies a life awaiting diagnosis and treatment.

When the slide preparation is complete, it does not mean the report can be issued immediately. Pathologists must carefully interpret under the microscope, searching for clues of lesions, repeatedly reviewing slides, and scrutinizing meticulously. Only after confirmation is a pathological report, handed to doctors and patients, officially born.

Although this report consists of only a few words, each word is precious, carrying immense responsibility, relating to the hopes of an individual or even a family, and allowing no room for error. From the initial sampling to the final slide review, every step must be rigorous and meticulous. Even amidst the myriad forms of disease, they must ensure it has nowhere to hide under the microscope. A decade of honing skills in slide preparation and review is all for providing patients with accurate diagnoses and delivering a satisfactory answer to patients and their families.

Great love is silent on the shores of medicine; saving lives and healing the wounded, with no regrets for life, is the solemn oath of pathological diagnosis and the responsibility of pathologists!
