Strengthening the Foundation Initiative: Deepening Grassroots Work to Consolidate the Foundation, Enhancing Quality and Efficiency to Support Development—2022 Fujian Provincial Grassroots Pathology Training Program (Nanping Station)

Introduction:

In response to the national hierarchical diagnosis and treatment policy, promoting the extension of superior medical and health resources to the grassroots, building a high-quality pathology learning and exchange platform, and effectively assisting in the training and technical support of pathology talents in primary hospitals, the “2022 Fujian Province Primary Pathology Training Course – Nanping Station” was successfully held in the beautiful Jianyang from August 20th to 21st. The event was organized by Fujian Provincial Hospital and Fujian Provincial Pathology Quality Control Center, and co-organized by Nanping Medical Association Pathology Branch, Nanping Pathology Quality Control Center, and Nanping Second Hospital. Leaders from the Nanping Municipal Health Commission, heads of pathology departments from various units, as well as pathologists and technicians engaged in pathology work in the Nanping region attended the meeting. Maixin Company, as the exclusive technical support unit, participated throughout the event, delivered special topic sharing, provided high-quality professional technical support during the practical training session, and ensured the smooth progress of the conference.

Director Yang Jun of the Pathology Department of Nanping Second Hospital, as the host, delivered the opening speech, extending a warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to all leaders and colleagues for their attendance.

Deputy Director Zheng Chunsheng of the Nanping Municipal Health Commission delivered the opening speech for the conference. He stated, “Pathologists are doctors’ doctors.” The level of a hospital’s pathology department is an important indicator of the hospital’s overall diagnosis and treatment capabilities. The construction of primary pathology is a long-term and systematic task that requires extensive attention and support.

Professor Yu Yinghao, former Chairman of the Pathology Branch of Fujian Medical Association and Director of the Pathology Department of the 900th Hospital of the PLA, shared his personal experiences in pathology work with the attendees. Drawing on his years of grassroots work experience, he offered suggestions for the development of primary pathology and discussed the significance and role of building primary pathology platforms.

President Zheng Xiongwei of Fujian Cancer Hospital introduced the construction of the primary pathology diagnosis platform, emphasizing the critical role of the pathology department in clinical medical activities and the importance of developing primary pathology.

Director Chen Xiaoyan of the Fujian Provincial Pathology Quality Control Center/Fujian Provincial Hospital explained the original intention and goals of the “Going to the Grassroots” series of activities and expressed earnest hopes for the primary pathology workers participating in the training.

Theoretical Training – From Simple to Complex, From Easy to Difficult

Teachers Chen Xin and Zheng Huawei from the Pathology Department of Fujian Provincial Hospital provided professional and systematic explanations on “Pre-IHC Tissue Processing” and “IHC Basics and Precautions,” respectively. Engineer Zhou Honghui from Fuzhou Maixin Biotechnology Company discussed “Preliminary Interpretation of IHC Results,” offering a rigorous and thorough explanation of why technicians need to perform preliminary interpretations.

Practical Operation – Hands-on Teaching, Face-to-Face Guidance

Instructors from Maixin Company reinforced the outcomes of theoretical training through standardized and normative demonstrations and guidance, helping participants independently complete the immunohistochemistry operation process.After staining, Director Yang Jun of the Pathology Department of Nanping Second Hospital randomly selected slides for review. Many participants who had never performed immunohistochemistry experiments achieved excellent results, which was highly encouraging.This also verified the outstanding performance of MaixinBiotechnology’s self-developed and produced p16, Ki-67, Hp, and HER-2 antibodies in terms of specificity and sensitivity.

After the training, Director Chen Xin of Fujian Provincial Hospital summarized the event. He stated that this grassroots training activity in Nanping was practical and down-to-earth, integrating learning with practice and theory with application, providing an excellent learning and exchange platform for primary pathology workers in Nanping. He emphasized that ongoing attention would be paid to the dynamics of primary pathology in Fujian Province, hoping that the implementation of the “Going to the Grassroots” series of activities would effectively enhance the pathology diagnosis level and capabilities of primary hospitals in the province.

The construction of the primary pathology system is the cornerstone for promoting the further development of China’s pathology industry, and it is a long-term and arduous task.
