Chronic H. pylori Infection Classified as a “Definite Carcinogen”: Maxin’s HP Antibody Aids Scientific Prevention and Control!

Introduction:

The incidence of gastric cancer ranks fifth among known cancers worldwide. In China, due to dietary habits, it is among the top three, having become one of the serious threats to human life and health!
Among the many factors contributing to gastric cancer, Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection is considered one of the main causes.World Health Organization reports indicate that half of gastric cancer cases are related to Helicobacter pylori.AndInthe recently released 15th edition of the carcinogen report by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, chronic Helicobacter pylori infection has also been explicitly listed as a carcinogen.

In recent years, survey data show thatapproximately one in every two people in China carries Helicobacter pylori, with an infection rate as high as 40% to 60%.This means that among every five people, three are infected with Helicobacter pylori, which has clearly become a health issue affecting the entire society. In light of this, public education on Helicobacter pylori is essential for increasing general awareness and understanding, as well as for the scientific prevention and control of Helicobacter pylori, thereby reducing the incidence of gastric cancer.

01

What You Need to Know About Helicobacter Pylori

Helicobacter pylori, abbreviated as HP, is a Gram-negative bacterium with extremely strong survival capabilities. It can survive in highly acidic environments and is currently the only known microorganism capable of surviving in the stomach. After Helicobacter pylori reaches the gastric mucosa via the mouth and establishes an infection, it can cause chronic, superficial gastritis. Over time, this may develop into duodenal ulcers, gastric ulcers, chronic atrophic gastritis, etc., with the latter being the most dangerous factor leading to gastric cancer.

 02

Does Infection with Helicobacter Pylori Lead to Gastric Cancer?

Helicobacter pylori infection is one of the inducing factors for gastric cancer, but not all infections will develop into gastric cancer. The progression of gastric cancer is a lengthy process, resulting from the combined effects of many factors. It is merely an accomplice in the development of gastric cancer. As long as symptoms are treated early, there is no need for panic. However, this does not mean thatit does not require attention, because Helicobacter pylori infection can not only cause gastric diseases such as chronic gastritis, peptic ulcers, gastric cancer, and gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue malignant lymphoma but also lead to extra-gastric diseases like iron deficiency anemia, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, and allergic purpura.

Detection of Helicobacter Pylori

Detection of Helicobacter pylori (HP) can be divided into two main categories: invasive and non-invasive tests. Invasive tests rely on gastric biopsy and mainly include five methods: rapid urease test (RUT), gastric mucosal tissue section staining microscopy, direct gastric mucosal smear staining microscopy, bacterial culture, and genetic testing. Non-invasive tests do not rely on gastric biopsy and primarily include three main methods: 13C or 14C urea breath test (UBT), serum HP antibody detection, and stool HP antigen detection. There are many methods for detecting HP,but histological pathological examination is considered the gold standard for directly diagnosing gastric mucosal HP. Among these, immunohistochemistryhas high sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy, requires less expertise from physicians in slide reading, and is suitable for promotion in practical work.
Maxin independently developed HP antibodies, validated through thousands of cases and multiple methodological clinical trials. It is the only product globally to have obtained a Class III immunohistochemistry registration certificate and has been praised and recommended by authoritative clinical experts.

Does Infection with Helicobacter Pylori Always Require Treatment?

Clinically, about 80%-90% of Helicobacter pylori carriers never show any symptoms in their lifetime. Doctors recommend that Helicobacter pylori carriers over the age of 35 with a family history of gastric cancer or upper gastrointestinal symptoms undergo gastroscopy to assess the stomach’s condition. According to current clinical guidelines, Helicobacter pylori-induced peptic ulcers and gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma are absolute indications for eradicating Helicobacter pylori. However, eradication is also recommended for those with a family history of gastric cancer, chronic gastritis accompanied by dyspepsia, mucosal atrophy, erosion, etc.

How to Prevent Helicobacter Pylori Infection?

HP infection is a major cause of gastric cancer and the most important controllable risk factor for preventing gastric cancer. Therefore, preventing HP infection is crucial.
1. Wash hands before meals and after using the toilet: Focus on cleaning the palms, backs of hands, and gaps between fingers to prevent Helicobacter pylori from having a chance.
2. Ensure food is cooked at high temperatures: Helicobacter pylori has a weakness—it is not heat-resistant. Water should be boiled before drinking, meat should be thoroughly cooked, and milk should be pasteurized before consumption.
3. Reduce stomach irritation: Eat less spicy foods, have smaller and more frequent meals, avoid smoking and alcohol, maintain a balanced diet, and chew food slowly.
4. Consider separate meals: If there is an infected person in the household, use serving chopsticks until they are completely cured.
5. Avoid feeding mouth-to-mouth: Be sure to avoid feeding children mouth-to-mouth.
