2016 Group-based Academic Conference Series for Tibet Aid and the First Qinghai-Tibet Pathology Academic Exchange and Technical Training Conference Successfully Held in Lhasa!

Tibet, the roof of the world, has nurtured the most mysterious plateau civilization. The infinite piety of Tibetan compatriots towards faith captivates everyone, making them yearn to understand and integrate into it. There is a group of pathologists undeterred by altitude sickness, who, leveraging their technical expertise and respective strengths, unhesitatingly accept the mission to aid Tibet. They hope to improve the level of pathological diagnosis in this region through their own efforts, contributing their youth and strength to achieve the goal of ‘major illnesses treated within Tibet,’ and adding bricks and tiles to the health and happy lives of the Tibetan people!

From July 22-24, hosted by the Pathology Professional Committee of the Tibet Autonomous Region Medical Association, the Pathology Department of Tibet Autonomous Region People’s Hospital, and the Pathology Department of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, and co-organized by the Pathology Professional Committee of Qinghai Province Medical Association,The first Qinghai-Tibet Pathology Academic Exchange and Technical Training Conference was successfully held in Lhasa!

This conference invited many renowned experts and scholars such as Professor Bu Hong, Professor Yu Yinghao, and Professor Zhang Yiqing. Everyone spoke freely to seek consensus and offered suggestions for the development of the pathology industry. Professor Bu Hong’s speech particularly pointed out the direction for the development of pathology technology and diagnosis in Tibet.

At the same time, to further establish a relatively comprehensive quality control method and procedure and standardize technical operations, the unveiling of the Tibet Autonomous Region Pathology Diagnosis (Quality Control) Center during the conference marked a new milestone in the development of pathology in Tibet.

At the unveiling ceremony, Comrade Wang Yunting, Director and Deputy Party Secretary of the Tibet Autonomous Region Health and Family Planning Commission,Comrade Hu Xuejun, Deputy Director of the Tibet Autonomous Region Health and Family Planning Commission and President of Tibet Autonomous Region People’s Hospital,Comrade Han Ding, Vice President of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, leader of the ‘group-style’ medical talent aid team to Tibet, and Executive Vice President of Tibet Autonomous Region People’s Hospital, respectively delivered enthusiastic speeches on behalf of the autonomous region government leadership units and the aid cadres to Tibet.

In addition, the rich teaching content, like a sumptuous feast, attracted many attending pathology colleagues. Professors Zhang Sheng, Li Zhi, Ren Li, Liu Yong, Wu Yongjun, Guo Xinjian, and Zhong Dingrong respectively gave in-depth and easy-to-understand explanations on hot topics in pathology such as new advances in nasal cavity tumors, main types and differential diagnosis of salivary gland diseases,Clinical applications of TCT in gynecology and non-gynecology,pathological diagnosis issues in gastrointestinal mucosal biopsies, breast pathology diagnosis, diagnosis of lymphatic system tumors, and differential diagnosis of cartilage-derived tumors and related lesions. The on-site learning atmosphere was intense.

Regarding the weakness in pathology technology in the Tibet region,Basicthe Peking Union Medical College Hospital pathology technical training team (Professor Wang Detian, Technician Zhou Liangrui, Technician Pang Junyi) provided detailed and practical experience sharing and introductions on various aspects such as how to produce excellent HE slides, how to avoid and repair problematic HE slides, and special staining operations;Teacher Zhao Jie’s explanation on quality control of lymphohematopoietic system and bone-containing tissue slide preparation was highly beneficial;Professor Song Xin’s introduction to immunohistochemistry detection technology and quality control key points, and Teacher Jin Yaofeng’s vivid analysis of technical operation issues in molecular pathology were particularly impressive. These training sessions on knowledge urgently needed by technical personnel in the Tibet region were widely welcomed by everyone.

As a national enterprise, Maixin has always been committed to bringing pathology technology into every pathology department, striving to improve the level of pathological diagnosis in China. As an invited enterprise this time, while making a modest contribution to promoting the development of pathology in the Tibet Autonomous Region, we were also fortunate to witness the medical cause in Tibet opening a brand new page at this moment! We sincerely hope that the ‘flower of pathology’ will bloom more abundantly on the roof of the world!
